Saturday Saturday Saturday
I am pleased with what appears to be a nice
looking blog page. I may change it later but
for now it suits me.
I am amazed at how everything is so green again now that the snow has gone. There was so very much snow and now you can't tell that it was ever here. A Mercy. I was thinking about how all of the melted snow has gone deep into the earth to nourish it and prepare it for the life that will soon come forth from it. Spring.
Today it rained and even more nourishment for the earth. I am excited. I fed the Crows today and there was a red-brested Robin among the crew. They say that when you see him that it is a sure sign that Spring is coming very soon. Allaah knows best.
I may be jumping the gun but I bought Dahlia bulbs and Asian Tiger Lily bulbs for the side yard today. I see my little fat friend Chunky the squirrel did'nt starve over the winter. He always hangs around the exact spot that I want to plant the bulbs. I am afraid that he will dig them up and eat them. I have to keep my eye on him. Maybe I will start leaving cut apples for him on the other side of the yard with the hope that he will become distracted.
I love flowers. My favorite in the entire world is the Calla Lily. I also love Roses, Hydrandea, Peony, Gardenia, Hibiscus, Shasta Daisy, Blackeyed Susan ( poor Susan), Morning Glory and a lot more. I have planned the flower garden to be on the side yard. This is where I will have my table and chair or bench for breakfast, or coffee, or nothing. The afternoon sun feels so good on that side. I will be able to read and write out there all the way until Asr time. This is also a good place to watch birds.
My plan includes a vegetable garden on the same side going towards the back. I have planned for tomatoe plants, collard greens, bush beans and squash. My worry in this area are deer. They make me sick. I do not like them. I cant figure out where they come from or where they go in the daytime. They are bold and some of them are big and have antlers. They are sneaky. I cant enjoy the yard after dusk because I actually am afraid of them and they dont care, they come anyway. I have heard that they eat vegetables AND flowers. I dont want to hurt them but I sure could use some advice on how to keep them away from my space.
Across the back fence I have plans for wildflowers. Wildflowers of every kind you can imagine. I want to just go crazy scattering the seeds. I want to dance and twirl and let the seeds flow from my hand like an actress taking a bow. I want them to be everywhere. I am excited about those wildflowers, plus it will be groundcover and maybe a distraction for the dumb deer. Thats why I want a lot of them. Some for me to enjoy and some for them to eat.
Under the kitchen window I plan to put Sunflowers. I want a Lilac bush there as well. I think that they will give me a beautiful focal point while doing summertime dishes. I do a lot of thinking at that kitchen sink. That is what the kitchen chalkboard is for. Poetry comes to me from so many places. I love it. I am grateful for this gift.
My dear Mother gave me Green Zinnia for the side of the house. Have you ever seen green Zinnia? The flower is a beautiful dark lime green. She also gave me bright red Cosmos. They will be very pretty on that side and will get lots of sun.
The front yard will be full on Petunias and Marigolds. I want multi-colored ones. I have a Hibiscus bush from last year. It had yellow and salmon blossoms and they were gorgeous. One morning I noticed that all of the blooms on the top of the bush were gone! I wondered who had picked them, but I knew deep down who the culprit was. Deer !!! They just wont mind their own business. They make me sick. Sneaky things. *sigh*
And that concludes the contents of my Gardens. All that is left is the beauty of my words. I am so excited - the season is so special. I pray that I am blessed with good health and life so that I may enjoy it, work in the earth, put my bare feet and both my hands deep into the dirt. I cant wait to use my hose to rinse my feet and my clogs. I cant wait to be able to water everything softly right before the sun sets. *sigh*
My peace, my solace, the natural beauty of the creation - my gold Pilot G-2, my #2 pencil, my notebook and my beverage and I can write writeous words ... I can hardly wait.
